Este tipo de máscara se utiliza mucho durante la danza folclórica "La Danza de los Tecuanes", una de las festividades más populares de la cultura nahua en Guerrero. La danza cuenta la historia de un jaguar salvaje que se come a las personas y mata animales domésticos con un látigo. Mientras los médicos atienden a los heridos y los buitres esperan impacientes, algunos cazadores persiguen al jaguar y finalmente se lo llevan.

Esta danza en realidad simboliza la lucha entre los seres humanos y la naturaleza al intentar proteger los cultivos. Esta danza se realiza para ahuyentar daños y atraer lluvias para las cosechas.

Tradition in which leather and acrylic paint are used to form handmade masks that are part of "the dance of the Tecuanes", which is one of the most popular dances of the Nahua culture of Guerrero.

It actually symbolizes the combat between human beings and the forces of nature in search of crop protection.The festival takes place on May 3 in the feast of the Holy Cross, which consists of bringing an offering to the top of the Tepehuizco hill, and then marching in procession to the town's church, all accompanied by music and dance.
