SCULPTED LEATHER / SAN FRANCISCO OZOMATLAN, GUERRERO
Tradition in which leather and acrylic paint are used to form handmade masks that are part of "the dance of the Tecuanes", which is one of the most popular dances of the Nahua culture of Guerrero.
It actually symbolizes the combat between human beings and the forces of nature in search of crop protection. The festival takes place on May 3 in the feast of the Holy Cross, which consists of bringing an offering to the top of the Tepehuizco hill, and then marching in procession to the town's church, all accompanied by music and dance.
HAND PAINTING AND POTTERY /OCUMICHO, MICHOACÁN
We wanted to focus on the incredible craftsmanship of the artisans which we collaborated with on our new collection: “Collectivity”. We call “Cross Pollination” to the exchange of techniques and know-hows from indigenous towns, so we invited Zenaida Rafael Julián and his son, Sergio Alejandro, who own a remarkable polychrome clay workshop in Ocumicho, Michoacán, to paint the bags made by the Nájera family in Guerrero.
Thanks to their invaluable talent and the mix of their techniques, this is a special edition in which every bag is a unique piece of art on its own.
